Giants check out Joe Addai

According to Mike Garafolo of USA TODAY Sports, the New York Giants worked out running back Joseph Addai this week.

The Giants have an open roster spot, since they just placed rookie defensive tackle Markus Kuhn on season ending injured reserve.

It’s interesting the Giants brought in Addai.  I know teams bring in players all the time for work outs, but with Ahmad Bradshaw dealing with a foot injury and now reportedly undergoing additional testing on his neck,  I’m wondering  if he could end up on injured reserve or out for an extended period of time.

Giants waiting for David Wilson to grow up

New York Giants running backs coach Jerald Ingram told the New York Post that rookie running back David Wilson needs to learn how to be a complete player.

“David has to learn you can’t be just a runner, that’s not what we do, you have to be a complete running back, you have to be knowledgeable, you have to be smart, you can’t just accept your mistakes,’’ running backs coach Jerald Ingram said on Monday.

Ingram says it doesn’t matter that Wilson was a first round pick.

“Just because you’re a first-round draft pick doesn’t mean you’re ready to play or they all would be great,’’ Ingram said.

“It’s about winning games, it’s not a popularity contest. It’s time for you to grow up and be a man now and see what you can do with the whole ball of wax. Until he proves that it’s hard to stick him out there and feel comfortable.’’

Phil Simms doesn’t believe Eli Manning is an elite quarterback

During an appearance on CBS Sports Network’s NFL Monday QB show, former Giants quarterback and CBS analyst Phil Simms said that he doesn’t believe Eli Manning is an elite quarterback.

“No, he is not one of the elites,” Simms said in quotes distributed by CBS, via the New York Daily News. “Because when I hear the word elite, I’m thinking about guys that can make unbelievable plays on the field by themselves. There are very few quarterbacks in that category.

“So yes, Eli has been a tremendous team player. He has been MVP of the Super Bowl twice. I know that. But the way I look at it, the answer is no.”

I have to disagree with Simms, Eli has made some unbelievable plays in both Super Bowl’s that he’s won.  Manning’s throw to Tyree and Manningham were both amazing plays.

Giants lose Markus Kuhn to a torn ACL

New York Giants rookie defensive tackle Markus Kuhn suffered a torn ACL during this past Sunday’s loss to the Bengals.

“He plays a big role,” Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said. “Markus Kuhn’s done a really nice job. Nobody really talks about him and that’s good, because he just comes in and does his job. That’s probably why you don’t talk about him, because he’s done his job.

“Markus played anywhere from 10-15 plays and those 10-15 plays he would take off Chris Canty, or Rocky Bernard, or Linval Joseph were key plays that he didn’t really make a lot of mistakes. He was very solid in what he was doing. Before he exited the game yesterday, Markus had a pass breakup. I think if you look, he might have two, three, four pass breakups that nobody mentions.”

The Giants have had a lot of injuries at the defensive tackle spot this season and losing Kuhn will only hurt them as they head into their stretch run toward the playoffs.

Ahmad Bradshaw will reportedly undergo a battery of tests on his neck

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on Monday Night Countdown that New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw was removed from yesterday’s game against the Bengals because of a neck injury.

“The injury had been undisclosed to this point. Per Mort, Bradshaw has “some issues with his neck” and during the Giants’ Week 11 bye will undergo “some exams and MRIs” to detect the extent. Mortensen did note that coach Tom Coughlin did “not sound overly alarmed” during his Monday press conference. It’s still a situation for fantasy owners to monitor over the next two weeks,” wrote Rotoworld.com.

This explains why Andre Brown was on the field a lot more than Bradshaw.

Carlos Rogers ready to salsa against the Giants

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers is ready to make a big play on Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz this Sunday and do his famed salsa dance.

“I like the dance, actually,” Rogers said, per the Sacramento Bee. “I really can’t do it as good as him but. But if I make a play or get an interception on him in my mind, just do his dance.”

Cruz wrote about Rogers disrespecting him during their regular season meeting last year in his new book.

“Then with his teammates cheering him on, he did a sarcastic salsa dance over me,” Cruz wrote. “The Candlestick Park crowd went ballistic, but I wasn’t laughing. It was a sign of disrespect. Instead of getting up and retaliating, though, I sat and watched Rogers finish his cheap Victor Cruz imitation. I promised to never forget it. I wasn’t sure when the opportunity would present itself but I was confident I’d get payback for that dance.”
Cruz went off on Rogers during the NFC title game by hauling in eight receptions for 125 yards in the first half.
With Hakeem Nicks possibly out this week, the 49ers may have the luxury to roll coverage to Cruz’s side of the field, which would give Rogers some much-needed help.
Maybe before the game Cruz can show Rogers his Super Bowl ring, since the 49ers were so close last season.

Harry Carson would never have played football knowing what he knows now

Former New York Giants linebacker Harry Carson looks back on his successful NFL career and admits that he wouldn’t have played football if he knew what kind of effects it would have on him later on down the road.

“From a physical risk standpoint, I knew that you could get hurt physically and I assumed that risk,” said Carson, per CBS New York. “But from a neurological risk standpoint, I didn’t know. So knowing what I know now, I would never have played football.”

Carson says he feel fine physically.

“Physically I feel pretty good,” he said. “But you know there are days when I have not so good days, when I have headaches and blurred vision and all that stuff, so it’s something that I’ve learned to live with. I live a pretty normal life.”

Carson doesn’t regret playing football.

“You know what? It was a learning experience for me,” Carson said. “Regret? I’m not going to say regret. But if I had to do it all over again, I would not have played.”

“I never would’ve put my brain at risk. My body? Yeah. But my brain, that’s a different story,” he said. “Because that whole brain thing lasts forever.”

Victor Cruz ditching his salsa dance?

After yesterday’s win over the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz hinted that it might be time for a new touchdown celebration.

“Stay tuned,” Cruz said, per the New York Daily News. “I am not quite ready to let the cat out the bag, but there might be a little something.”

Cruz’s salsa dance was getting old yesterday after he scored three touchdowns.  It will be interesting to see what he comes up with next.  I wouldn’t even be mad at him if he just refrained from celebrating every time he scores and did the salsa more sparingly.

Martellus Bennett’s knee is fine

New York Giants tight end Martellus Bennett underwent an MRI on his knee yesterday after hyperextending it during this past week’s win over the Browns.

Bennett announced on Twitter that his knee is fine.

It sounds like Bennett will just have to deal with some discomfort until his knee heals.

Giants’ Will Hill suspended for PED’s

The New York Giants announced today that safety Will Hill has been suspended for four games by the NFL for using performance enhancing drugs.

Hill was busted for using Adderall which is on the NFL’s list of banned substances.

Hill said he received a prescription from his doctor before signing with the Giants.

The Giants also activated safety Tyler Sash who’s four game suspension for Adderall is now over.  How ironic.
