Osi Umenyiora says Rex Ryan has learned his lesson

New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora indicated that they weren’t too happy about all of bold predictions that Jets head coach Rex Ryan’s made last season before they played the Jets on Christmas Eve.

“I didn’t play that game but I was in the meetings and all that stuff, man, they didn’t like that at all,’’ Umenyiora said Tuesday on WFAN, making the media rounds to promote M&M’s new personalized candy, per the New York Post. “I just knew the Jets were gonna get a beat-down after all that trash talking they were doing. I think Rex has pretty much learned his lesson about that. I like the way he coaches, I think he’s a wonderful coach but you really don’t want to be poking a bear with a short stick like that.’’

This is the first year that we won’t have to hear Ryan make some crazy prediction about winning the Super Bowl.  It’s really a breath of fresh air to not have to hear him.

Osi Umenyiora says the Jets care about headlines more then winning a Super Bowl

New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora told Andrew Siciliano of the NFL Network, that the Giants and Jets are different because the Giants are more focused on winning the Super Bowl each year, and the Jets are more interested in grabbing head lines.

“At the end of the day, man, we do things a little bit differently out here,” he said. “We go out there on the football field and play. The Jets, you know, they’re a good football team themselves, man, but they have a lot of things going on that a lot of people are interested in, and you know, they’re more interested in that than us going out there and actually winning the Super Bowl.

So, there’s nothing wrong with that; much respect to the New York Jets, man. Hopefully, things will keep on going that way.”

Umenyiora is just reiterating how the Giants front office feels about the Jets grabbing the headlines in New York–they don’t care if the Jets are on the front page every day, the Giants will keep trying to win the Super Bowl.

Tom Coughlin talks trash regarding the Jets hogging the headlines

At the NFL owners meetings on Wednesday, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin made it clear that it doesn’t bother himthat the New York Jets are hogging the local headlines.

“You know who won the Super Bowl even if we’re not on front page,” said Coughlin.”New Yorkers know.”

Coughlin usually doesn’t talk much trash, but when you win your second Super Bowl in four years, you can pretty much say anything you want.

Rex Ryan: “We want what the Giants got”

At the NFL owners meeting on Tuesday, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan told the media that they want what the New York Giants currently have and that’s of course a Super Bowl title.

“We want what the Giants got. We want to win a Super Bowl & we’re going to do everything we can to build a better football team,” said Ryan.

Ryan has always been outspoken when it comes to his desire to win a Super Bowl.  But this offseason he’s been more reserved about any predictions and it looks like he finally knows who the team to beat in New York is.

Giants rip the Jets once again

The 2012 NFL owners meetings have officially begun and it looks like the New York Giants aren’t done making smart comments about the New York Jets.

According to Bob Glauber of Newsday, Giants owner John Mara was asked if New York was big enough for the Giants and Tim Tebow.

“I don’t know, but the David Carr press conference will be tomorrow too, said Mara referring to the fact that the Giants just re-signed Carr to a one-year deal just last week.

When Jets owner Woody Johnson was told about what Mara said, an unhappy Johnson replied, “Well, that’s pretty interesting.”

Right after the Giants won the NFC Championship they took a dig at the Jets by tweeting that they never satisfied with conference championship games.

Brandon Jacobs wouldn’t mind playing for the Jets

Former New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs told the New York Post that he wouldn’t mind finishing his career with Rex Ryan and the New York Jets.

“I got about three good ones left in me, no question … guaranteed three more years left in me,” Jacobs told the Post.

“I would love to do that,’’ Jacobs said. “It would be an opportunity for me to not have to relocate. I got to do what’s best for my family. Whichever team it is, I think is going to be a lucky team. I got a lot left in me, got a lot to offer.’’

Jacobs believes that he could get along with Rex after both men exchanged harsh words with one another after the Giants rolled over the Jets during their week 16 match up.

“That whole thing with Rex Ryan — me and Rex are alike, that’s what it is,’’ Jacobs said. “We definitely could get along, no question about it. There were a lot of things said in the heat of the battle. It’s football. I talk with players on the other teams every week and shake their hand afterwards. I like Rex as a coach, I would definitely play for him. I would not say I wouldn’t go there. It would be an opportunity to see how things are on the other side.’’
