Kiwanuka believes JPP can eclipse 30 sacks in a single season

New York Giants linebacker/defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka believes his teammate Jason Perre-Paul has the potential to rack up 30 total sacks in a single season.

“A 30-sack guy?” asked Kiwanuka per the Newark Star-Ledger.

“He could be. Absolutely,” Kiwanuka continued. “He definitely has the potential to be one of the best ever. There’s so much that goes into it that’s out of his control so you don’t want to jinx him or anything like that, but if the kid keeps working and God’s on his side and he stays healthy, we expect to see great things out of him.”

One of the most impressive things to me about Pierre-Paul is how his motor never stops.  The guy is relentless.  I’ve seen running backs break 15 yard runs and then end up getting chased down by JPP.

It won’t be long before people start referring to JPP as the NFL’s best pass rusher.

Jerry Jones agrees with Kiwanuka, says the Giants have been “whupping” the Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can’t help but agree with Giants linebacker/defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka that they’ve been “whupping” the Cowboys over the past few seasons.

“I agree with him, and the only thing I’m saying is that I’ll never get used to it,” Jones told USA Today Sports.

“It is tough (being) on the outside looking in,” Jones said of the Giants’ Super Bowl titles. “That’s the way I felt when I got in the NFL as an owner. I didn’t want to be on the outside, looking in.

“The Giants are an inspiration … it is opening the NFL season in front of such a high-profile forum … the Wednesday night game … all of that is there. We have that kind of respect for them. I don’t shy away or back off from saying, ‘Hey, guys you’ve got what I would have liked to have had.’

“I want to do whatever we can do to try and get some of it.”

I will give Jones some credit, at least he isn’t completely delusional and realizes that his team hasn’t been on the same level as the Giants.  I honestly don’t see things changing when both teams face off next Wednesday.

Mathias Kiwanuka takes some shots at Jerry Jones and the Cowboys

New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka was asked what he thought about the comments of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones who told his fans that they were going to “beat the Giants a****.”

“He should. I mean, the Giants have been whupping his *** for a long time,” Kiwanuka said on WFAN’s Boomer and Carton Radio show via the Newark Star-Ledger.

“It’s gotta be tough on the outside looking in on all of these championships lately,” Kiwanuka continued. “That’s the feeling I feel like everybody in the league has and everybody should have because we’re here on top and everybody should be wanting to knock you off.”

I can’t help but laugh at Kiwanuka’s comments because they’re true, the Giants have owned the Cowboys over the past few seasons and the Cowboys haven’t even been on the same level.  Not to mention the Giants have two Super Bowl titles over the past five years while the Cowboys have won only a single playoff game in the past 15-plus years.

Mathias Kiwanuka nursing a groin injury

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is hopeful that linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka will be ready for their season opener after suffering a groin injury in Friday night’s preseason game.

“He’s sore,” coach Tom Coughlin said of Kiwanuka on a conference call today per Giants.com. “He’s had a similar injury to this in the past. Hopefully, it’s not going to be too long. I don’t know what his status is going to be for this game that’s coming so quickly. We would project for the opener and get this under control.”

Kiwanuka was asked about the Giants season opener and he said, ” I’ll be ready.”

Tuck, Kiwanuka support Umenyiora in his pursuit of a new contract

New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora as the support of both Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka, who both believe he deserves to get paid.

“It’s hard,” Tuck said on ROME, a new show on the CBS Sports Network, per Ralph Vaacchiano of the NY Daily News. “He’s signed a contract and I believe in abiding by that contract, but also I think he’s outplayed that contract in today’s market. And how some of these defensive ends are getting paid lots of money, I think he deserves to get paid.”

Kiwanuka says that Umenyiora has been stuck with a bad contract for years.

“He’s been under contract in a bad deal for years now,” Kiwanuka said following today’s OTA per the Newark Star-Ledger. “Anybody who looks at the situation would say, ‘Well, this should’ve been taken care of a long time ago.’ For whatever reason it hasn’t so I understand his frustration. I know that it wasn’t a slight at me. I know he was just trying to get his point across.”

“If he was signed to a deal that was twice that and performed half of what he is, he would’ve been cut by now,” the linebacker said. “That’s just the reality of this game, but the fact that he’s signed to a lower-salary deal and he’s playing at a high level – 10-plus sacks every year – the fact that has nothing been done with it, it’s an obvious issue. It’d be an issue for anybody out here so I understand his frustration.”

I agree with Kiwanuka that Umenyiora has been stuck with a bad deal, but at the end of the day he agreed to sign that bad deal and now unfortunately he has to live with it.
