Hakeem Nicks officially ruled out for week 5

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has ruled out wide receiver Hakeem Nicks for Sunday’s game against the Browns.

Wide receiver Ramses Barden still hasn’t been cleared after suffering a concussion this past Sunday.

It looks like the Giants’ top three receivers this week will be Victor Cruz, Domenik Hixon and Reuben Randle.

Cornerback Corey Webster also has a hamstring injury, aside from his broken hand.

Hakeem Nicks not practicing for the Giants

According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, safety Antrel Rolle and cornerback Corey Webster were held out of Thursday’s practice.

Ramses Barden, Rockey Benard and Kenny Phillips also didn’t practice.

The good news is that David Baas, Chris Snee, Michael Coe, Jayron Hosley,  David Diehl and Keith Rivers all practiced.

Giants hold out Nicks, Bradshaw, Diehl and Hixon from practice

According to Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger, Ahmad Bradshaw, David Diehl, Hakeem Nicks, Domenik Hixon were all held out of Monday’s practice, as the Giants prepare to play the Panthers on Thursday night.

Today is the Giants’ only day of full practice before they travel to Charlotte tomorrow and four players aren’t participating.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw (neck), RT David Diehl (knee) and WR Domenik Hixon (concussion) all left Sunday’s game due to injury and the three weren’t at practice during the portion open to the media.

I expect Nicks to play this week even though he didn’t practice.  The Giants have been limiting his participation in practice as his foot continues to heal from offseason surgery.

Boley, Nicks say they’re playing this week

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (foot) and linebacker Michael Boley (hamstring) told reporters today there’s no doubt they’ll be playing in Wednesday’s season opener against the Cowboys.

Both players have been out a while and I think they will end up playing this week.

Hakeem Nicks misses Sunday’s practice

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks practiced on Saturday despite the fact that he’s dealing with soreness in his foot.  Sunday was another story Nicks.

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Nicks was held out of Sunday’s practice due to soreness in his foot.

“A day after stating he was feeling fine and having no problems on the field, Hakeem Nicks on Sunday did not participate in practice just four days before the Giants face the Cowboys in the season opener,” wrote Schwartz.

I believe Nicks will end up playing in Wednesday’s season opener.

Hakeem Nicks optimistic he’ll play this week

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks believes he’ll get a few snaps in Thursday’s final preseason game in preparation for their season opener next week against the Cowboys.  Head coach Tom Coughlin still hasn’t signed off on Nicks getting on the field this week though.

Hakeem Nicks prepping for week 1

Before last night’s preseason game between the Giants and the Bears, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks was seen fully dressed and on the field during warm ups. There was some confusion among the local media because he was listed as being inactive and looked like he was going to play.

Bob Glauber of Newsday indicated that it looks like the Giants are just getting Nicks ready for the season opener.

My guess would be that the Giants activate Nicks for their final preseason game in order to get him some reps.

Hakeem Nicks thinks Rueben Randle is ready to go

AP

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks told the Newark Star-Ledger that he believes rookie Rueben Randle is ready to come in and contribute right away.

“I think he’s ready,” said Nicks. “I talk with him a lot. He takes a lot of advice. I look at it like I’m here to make this as smooth a transition as you want. I’m here, pick my brain, ask me whatever you need, and he does that. He catches on, he caught on to the offense rather quickly while playing both sides — the ‘X’ (receiver), the ‘W’ and the ‘Z’ in OTAs. And he was still able to catch on real quick.”

From what I’ve seen so far this preseason, I think Randle is the best player the Giants have to fill in as their third receiver.

Hakeem Nicks on track for mid-August return

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks says that he’s still on schedule to return by mid-August as he continues to rehab from a broken foot.

“Definitely,” Nicks said. “No setbacks. Everything’s going the way we planned. I’m just sticking to the things that the doctors and trainers told us to do.”

Nicks even says he’s been able to run on his foot.

“There’s no pain, no pain right now,” Nicks said. “Ran on it before. The next morning, it responded very well. There’s no pain. It’s a matter of being smart about it.”

Hakeem Nicks on track for mid-August return

According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin hasn’t ruled out wide receiver Hakeem Nicks coming back by mid-August.

Nicks is recovering from a broken bone in his foot that he suffered during the offseason.  The good news is that so far he’s hasn’t suffered any set backs in his recovery.
