Giants waiting for David Wilson to grow up

New York Giants running backs coach Jerald Ingram told the New York Post that rookie running back David Wilson needs to learn how to be a complete player.

“David has to learn you can’t be just a runner, that’s not what we do, you have to be a complete running back, you have to be knowledgeable, you have to be smart, you can’t just accept your mistakes,’’ running backs coach Jerald Ingram said on Monday.

Ingram says it doesn’t matter that Wilson was a first round pick.

“Just because you’re a first-round draft pick doesn’t mean you’re ready to play or they all would be great,’’ Ingram said.

“It’s about winning games, it’s not a popularity contest. It’s time for you to grow up and be a man now and see what you can do with the whole ball of wax. Until he proves that it’s hard to stick him out there and feel comfortable.’’

David Wilson practicing with the first-team offense

New York Giants rookie running back David Wilson rolled with the first team offense on Monday, ahead of veteran D.J. Ware.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin made it clear that this was planned all along.

“But no, this was scheduled. David’s going to move up and get some plays with the 1s.”

Wilson is a much more talented back than Ware, but Ware knows the offense and is excellent in pass protection.

Once Wilson gets up to speed, it shouldn’t be long before Wilson is the Giants’ number two back behind Ahmad Bradshaw.

Ahmad Bradshaw says he feels great, ready for camp

New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw indicated on Thursday that he’s ready to go for the start of training camp next month after plenty of rest this offseason.  He’s actually ended up doing more on the field work then he had anticipated.

“I feel great,” said Bradshaw, per the Ebenezer Samuel of the NY Daily News. “I got (a procedure) in the beginning of March. They said it would take like three months and I’d be fine. I was ready in like a month and a half, and I’m ready to go.”

Bradshaw is a dangerous weapon for the Giants offense no matter if he’s healthy or not.  But there’s no doubt that when he’s 100 percent, he tends to wreak havoc on opposing defenses.

With the addition of rookie David Wilson, it take some of the pressure off of Bradshaw, which may help him stay healthy in 2012.
