San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs made an appearance on KNBR in San Francisco (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) to discuss why he chose to sign with the 49ers and also discussed role in their offense.
Jacobs said that he signed with the 49ers because they made him the best offer.
“Well, ya know, they had the best offer for me as well. … At the end of the day we go out and play this game for it being football, what we all love playing. But after you’ve been in the business a certain amount of time, and know that they’ve turned it into nothing but a business, that what-have-you-done-for-me-lately type attitude comes. And that’s what we turn it into as players, and that’s when things happen. Anyway, it’s a great opportunity for me to join the 49ers. Not only did they have the best offer for me — I think that’s a special group of guys in that locker room, and coaches and the whole organization. And I grew up a 49er fan and I’ve loved the 49ers always. So it’s a good opportunity for me to put a dream to sleep.”
Jacobs was asked if it’s possible to run straight ahead in third and short situations. He struggled in short yardage situations in 2011 and blamed his problems on the Giants offensive line.
“Oh, no question. You can definitely do it. You gotta have the attitude to do it, and also you gotta have the offensive linemen in front of the back to be able to get it done. I think the 49ers have what it takes to be able to get that yard. No one’s perfect — somebody’s gonna get a step on you at some point somewhere and you’re not gonna be perfect. Because we had issues. When I was with the Giants, we had issues down the line. Of course I took the blame for those (because I was) holding the ball. But ultimately, at the end of the day it is my fault because I do have the ball and that’s what people see. But there’s a lot more than that going on. But like I said, I think the 49ers definitely got what it takes to be able to get that one yard. I think they had the highest percentage in the league all of last year with those conversions.”
What’s interesting is that Jacobs signed with the 49ers without even knowing what his role would be. It looks like he just signed with whatever team was willing to pay him.
“I have not spoke to anyone about my role. I just, I’m going there, earning everything they give me and I guess whatever I don’t get I didn’t earn, right? My goal is to go out there and give it all I’ve got and be able to come and be able to be a big part of this football team.”
I would be very surprised if Jacobs actually makes the 49ers final roster. I really don’t see him beating out Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon.

Brandon please do not burn your bridges like Tiki did. You won 2 Super Bowl rings with the Giants and the fans loved you you your fiery attitude. Especially hating the Cowboys! (Can we get a vote to eliminate the “America’s Team” association with the Cowturds?) You’ve moved on but don’t tarnish the memories we have of you as a member of Big Blue! The man does hold the NYG most TDs record after all
My son and I had 2 personal interactions with Brandon and he was a complete gentleman and one of the nicest athletes we have ever met.
Good luck with the 49ers

As a niner fan, we are glad to have him. When he runs North and South he is a beast. When he had to go east and west he was a calf at a rodeo. I think he makes the team and will play a big role.

I am going to read this one, but I wanted to comment first. 1. My opinion is the Giants had the best O-line in the business, 2 man the D looked like Parcells was coming out of it, ten years later.

1. Wide receiver
2. Running back
3. Tight end
Man Brandon Jacobs looked good, only because of a good O-line… Come on Man!
